How We Design Our Escape Rooms

At Escaped In Time, designing escape rooms is both an art and a science.

Our goal is to create immersive experiences to captivate players from the moment they step into the room until they solve their final puzzle. We carefully craft every element—storylines, props, and puzzles— to transport players into a new world of adventure, where they put to the test their creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.

Storytelling is at the heart of our design process.

Each escape room begins with a compelling storyline to guide how we develop the puzzles, props, and gameplay. Whether a player is unraveling a magician’s secrets, navigating Dorothy’s magical world, or exploring Colorado’s only upside-down room, the storyline drives every challenge. Our players aren’t just solving puzzles; they’re immersed in living an adventure.

We work to balance a players’ experience combining technology with traditional, and some untraditional puzzles.

This blend ensures dynamic gameplay that feels fresh and exciting. We craft each puzzle to fit into the storyline, so nothing feels out of place or arbitrary. We avoid “puzzles for puzzles’ sake,” instead designing meaningful and purposeful tasks that fit within the room’s storyline and ultimate goal: to escape in time!

Our design philosophy emphasizes challenging but fair gameplay.

We create engaging puzzles ensuring players feel rewarded for their efforts without becoming frustrated. We strive to balance every aspect of the room, from the flow of clues to the level of difficulty, to keep the experience enjoyable for players of all skill levels.

Testing is a cornerstone of our process.

We refine and fine-tune every room through playtesting to confirm the experience is smooth and intuitive…and FUN! We also use early-player feedback to help with testing, this way we can adjust for any bottlenecks and make sure the room flows and players can move naturally through the adventure.
